Inside the Campaign: Social Media Marketing for Hotels
Sammie McPhail is a Freelance Social Media Manager and one of her clients is The Master Builder’s House Hotel in Buckler’s Hard, an upscale New Forest hotel with a rich maritime history.
Sammie has shared her experience of building a social media strategy for the hotel from inception and ideation to execution and impact!
Project Overview
The primary objective of the campaign was to enhance the hotel’s social media presence and create high-quality content that would capture its classic, cosy, and historic vibe.
Challenges and Goals
The Marketing Director of The Woodford Group contacted Sammie via LinkedIn needing additional help with creating content for the Master Builder’s House Hotel.
The goal was to enhance the hotel’s social media presence through effective marketing for hotels, capturing the classic, cosy, and historic vibe of the hotel and its restaurants.
The challenge was a lack of time and resource. The Marketing Director was spread thin, travelling to three locations hours apart, and needed assistance from someone who could be on-site once or twice a month for a couple of days at a time.
Solutions and Strategies
To solve the challenge, Sammie provided comprehensive social media marketing and content creation services, focusing specifically on marketing for hotels. This included monthly shooting visits to film and capture the hotel, rooms, cottages, food, restaurants, bars, and grounds.
As well capturing and creating content for the hotel, Sammie also provided her marketing expertise in on-page SEO.

The Results
Through the collaborative efforts, the new social media marketing strategy successfully increased social media traffic, engagements, and follows.
The effective marketing for hotels strategy also led to increased organic social traffic directed to the hotel’s website, resulting in increased revenue for the restaurants and hotel.
The content was created with the hotel’s target audience in mind, focusing on visually appealing and authentic content portraying the hotel’s unique charm and history.
Sammie’s key takeaways
Working with the Master Builder’s House Hotel was an incredibly rewarding experience. The partnership with the Marketing Director and the hotel team was seamless, and they valued the content days as an essential component of their marketing strategy. This case study exemplifies the power of tailored marketing for hotels in enhancing their online presence and driving business growth.
My key takeaways from this project include the joy of content stays in hotels, which provide a rich environment for developing creative skills in photography and videography. It also reinforced the importance of a well-planned marketing strategy for hotels to boost visibility and engagement on social media.
